MAINSHAFT Assembly: Disassembly
- Remove large mainshaft bearing. Remove 1st gear, 1st gear needle bearing and bearing spacer. Remove 1st gear snap ring, inner cone, friction cone and synchronizer ring. See Fig 1
.
- Scribe mark on synchronizer hub and sleeve for reassembly reference. Ensure mating components are kept together. Using appropriate bearing separator and hydraulic press, remove 2nd gear, 1st-2nd synchronizer assembly, 2nd gear synchronizer ring, friction cone and 2nd gear inner cone (all components are removed with 2nd gear). .
- Remove 2nd gear needle bearing. Using appropriate bearing separator and hydraulic press, remove and discard small tapered bearing. Remove 3rd-4th gear synchronizer snap ring. Scribe mark on 3rd-4th synchronizer sleeve and hub for reassembly reference. Press off 3rd gear. Remove 3rd-4th synchronizer assembly and 3rd gear synchronizer ring with 3rd gear. Remove 3rd gear spacer and needle bearing.
