Code 77/81 - Front Solenoid Circuit Shorted To Ground: Notes

Code 77 - Left Front Wheel
Code 81 - Right Front Wheel

This test identifies a solenoid that cannot be energized due to an open in driver circuitry, or a short to ground between solenoid driver and solenoid. This code can affect ABS operation since flow of brake fluid to wheel cylinder cannot be stopped, making ABS operation for that channel impossible.

Code 77/81 can set only when solenoid is commanded on and EBCM/EBTCM detects solenoid control voltage is out of specification. Code will be stored, ABS will be disabled and ABS warning light illuminated.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart. Use only 10-megohm (minimum) DVOM for all voltage and resistance tests.

Checks for internal short to ground in solenoid.
Checks solenoid coil resistance.
Indicates if short to ground exists in solenoid circuitry.
Checks for intermittent problem in solenoid circuit due to poor connector terminal contact.
