Code 76/78 - Front Solenoid Circuit Open Or Shorted To Battery: Notes

• Code 76 - Left Front Wheel
• Code 78 - Right Front Wheel

This test identifies a solenoid that cannot be energized due to an open in driver circuitry, or a solenoid that is always energized due to a short to battery in circuit, between driver and solenoid. An open will not allow proper ABS operation, but short to battery simply turns on solenoid. A path for base brakes is still allowed once ABS motor rehomes and check ball is lifted off its seat during key on initialization.

Code can set only when solenoid is commanded off and EBCM/EBTCM detects excessive voltage in solenoid control circuit. Code will be stored, ABS will be disabled and ABS warning light illuminated.

1. Checks for short to battery in solenoid control circuit.
2. Checks for open in solenoid control circuit.
3. Checks solenoid coil resistance.
4. Checks for open in solenoid ground circuit.
5. Checks for intermittent problem in solenoid circuit due to poor connector terminal contact.
