Open Passenger Door Fails To Trip Alarm
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. Unless instructed otherwise in test step, reconnect any disconnected connectors.
- Close all passenger doors. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on bottom of instrument panel, to left of brake pedal. See Figure. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read PASS DOOR AJAR SW status. Observe scan tool display while each passenger door is opened. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED while each passenger door is open, leave scan tool connected and go to appropriate step. See PASSENGER DOOR TEST table. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED while each door is open, disconnect scan tool and go to step 14.PASSENGER DOOR TEST
Door Go to Step Right Front 3 Left Rear 6 Right Rear 9 All Passenger Doors 12 - Open Right Front (RF) door. Disconnect RF door ajar switch connector. Ensure all other passenger doors are closed. Connect a jumper wire between ground and RF door ajar switch connector, door ajar switch sense circuit (Light Blue/Orange wire). Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, read PASS DOOR AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace RF door ajar switch. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, leave RF door ajar switch connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of passenger door ajar switch sense circuit (Light Blue/Orange wire at door ajar switch connector; Dark Blue/Orange wire at RKE module connector) between RF door ajar switch connector and RKE module connector terminal No. 7. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Light Blue/Orange and/or Dark Blue/Orange wire.
- Open Left Rear (LR) door. Disconnect LR door ajar switch connector. Ensure all other passenger doors are closed. Connect a jumper wire between ground and LR door ajar switch connector, door ajar switch sense circuit (Light Blue/Orange wire). Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, read PASS DOOR AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace LR door ajar switch. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, leave LR door ajar switch connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of passenger door ajar switch sense circuit (Light Blue/Orange wire at door ajar switch connector; Dark Blue/Orange wire at RKE module connector) between LR door ajar switch connector and RKE module connector terminal No. 7. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Light Blue/Orange and/or Dark Blue/Orange wire.
- Open Right Rear (RR) door. Disconnect RR door ajar switch connector. Ensure all other passenger doors are closed. Connect a jumper wire between ground and RR door ajar switch connector, door ajar switch sense circuit (Light Blue/Orange wire). Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, read PASS DOOR AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace RR door ajar switch. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, leave RR door ajar switch connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect RKE module connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of passenger door ajar switch sense circuit (Light Blue/Orange wire at door ajar switch connector; Dark Blue/Orange wire at RKE module connector) between RR door ajar switch connector and RKE module connector terminal No. 7. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Light Blue/Orange and/or Dark Blue/Orange wire.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool. Disconnect Right Front (RF) door ajar switch connector. Disconnect Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of passenger door ajar switch sense circuit (Light Blue/Orange wire at door ajar switch connector; Dark Blue/Orange wire at RKE module connector) between RF door ajar switch connector and RKE module connector terminal No. 7. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, leave RF door ajar switch connector disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Light Blue/Orange and/or Dark Blue/Orange wire.
- Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Instrument cluster connector is a 26-pin Black connector, located behind left upper instrument panel. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of passenger door ajar switch sense circuit (Light Blue/Orange wire at door ajar switch connector; Dark Blue/Orange wire at instrument cluster connector) between RF door ajar switch connector and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 13. See Figure. If resistance less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - NEON article. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Light Blue/Orange and/or Dark Blue/Orange wire.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Right Front (RF) door ajar switch connector. Disconnect Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of passenger door ajar switch sense circuit (Light Blue/Orange wire at door ajar switch connector; Dark Blue/Orange wire at RKE module) between RF door ajar switch connector and RKE module connector terminal No. 7. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Light/Blue Orange and/or Dark Blue/Orange wire.
