Test TC-54A - Cruise Control Switch Always High

NOTE: Perform TEST TC-1A  before proceeding. After each repair, perform TEST SC-VER  .
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAM  .
  1. Using DRB, read cruise control inputs monitor. While observing S/C ON/OFF SW input, cycle cruise control ON/CRUISE/OFF switch several times. If DRB display corresponds with switch position, go to TEST TC-54B.
  2. If DRB display does not correspond with switch position, disconnect and inspect cruise control ON/CRUISE/OFF switch 2-pin connector. If connector is not okay, repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, connect a jumper wire between cruise control ON/CRUISE/OFF switch connector terminal No. 1 (White wire) and terminal No. 2 (Black wire).
  3. If DRB S/C ON/OFF SW input displays OFF, replace cruise control ON/CRUISE/OFF switch. If DRB S/C ON/OFF SW input does not display OFF, remove jumper wire lead from cruise control ON/CRUISE/OFF switch connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire). Reconnect jumper wire lead to a good chassis ground.
  4. If DRB S/C ON/OFF SW input displays OFF, repair open in Black wire to cruise control ON/CRUISE/OFF switch. If DRB S/C ON/OFF SW input does not display OFF, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. PCM is located under air cleaner.
  5. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRB in voltmeter mode, check voltage on cruise control ON/CRUISE/OFF switch connector terminal No. 1 (White wire). If voltage is more than 4.8 volts, repair short to voltage in White wire.
  6. If voltage is less than 4.8 volts, using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between PCM connector terminal No. 23 (Red/Light Green wire), and cruise control ON/CRUISE/OFF switch connector terminal No. 1 (White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM.
  7. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect and inspect clockspring 4-pin connector. If connector is not okay, repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Red/Light Green wire between PCM connector terminal No. 23 and clockspring 4-pin connector terminal No. 2.
  8. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/Light Green wire between PCM connector and clockspring connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/Light Green wire at clockspring.
