Test 21A - Testing Electronic Instrument Cluster For No Response

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect electronic instrument cluster connector. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Disconnect DRB-II. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Violet/Brown wire between terminal No. 1 at CCD bus diagnostic connector and terminal No 10 at instrument cluster connector.
  2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Violet/Brown wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, check resistance at White/Black wire between terminal No. 6 at CCD bus diagnostic connector and terminal No. 9 at instrument cluster connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open White/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, reconnect DRB-II. Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Probe terminal No. 7 (Black/Light Green wire) at instrument cluster connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Light Green wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, turn ignition switch to ON position. Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode. Probe terminal No. 11 (Dark Blue/White wire) at instrument cluster connector. If voltage is more than 10 volts, perform TEST 21B.
  5. If voltage is less than 10 volts, remove and inspect fuse No. 15 from fuse block. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, probe input terminal to fuse No. 15 (Dark Blue wire) in fuse block. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/White wire between fuse block and instrument cluster connector. Perform VERIFICATION TEST . If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue wire to fuse block. Perform VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Replace fuse No. 15. Disconnect body controller Blue connector. Body controller is located under left side of instrument panel. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. Disconnect warning indicator module connector. Module is located above instrument cluster. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary.
  7. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Remove and inspect fuse No. 15. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire. After repair is completed, perform TEST 21B . If fuse is okay, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect warning indicator module connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position.
  8. Remove and recheck fuse No. 15. If fuse is blown, replace warning indicator module. After repair is completed, perform TEST 21B . If fuse is okay, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect instrument cluster connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Remove and recheck fuse No. 15. If fuse is blown, replace instrument cluster. After repair is completed, perform TEST 21B . If fuse is okay, turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  9. Reconnect body controller Blue connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Remove and recheck fuse No. 15. If fuse is blown, replace body controller. After repair is completed, perform TEST 21B . If fuse is okay, perform TEST 21B .
