Test 14 - Checking Air Switching System

  1. Remove air cleaner. Disconnect the downstream air hose from the switch/relief valve. Start engine. With engine coolant above 150°F (67°C), air should be coming from downstream air port of the switch/relief valve.
  2. On 1.6L models, if air is coming from downstream air port, go to TEST 16  . On 2.2L models, if air is coming from downstream air port, go to TEST 15  . On all models, if air in not coming from downstream air port, go to step 3).
  3. Check air switching CVSCC valve. With air cleaner removed and engine running, disconnect vacuum hose from air switch/relief valve. Connect a vacuum gauge to hose. Vacuum should read 0 vacuum. If vacuum is okay, replace air switch/relief valve. If vacuum is present, replace CVSCC valve.
