Heater Core: Chrysler: Replacement

  1. Disconnect battery and drain coolant. Disconnect heater hoses at dash panel. Plug core tubes to prevent spillage of coolant in car interior. Slide front seat to full rearward position to allow room for removal of unit. Remove instrument panel lower cover. Unplug antenna lead from radio. Disconnect upper level ventilation actuator vacuum line.
  2. Remove one screw holding upper level vent ducts to heater housing, and one screw securing bracket to dash, duct will then spring back. Disconnect electrical connectors from blower motor resistor at lower right end of housing. Remove mode cable from clip and crank. Remove bottom retaining nut from support bracket and swing bracket out of the way. In engine compartment remove retaining nuts from studs (5). Now roll or tip housing out from under instrument panel. Remove temperature control cable from clip and blend air door crank.
  3. With housing now on bench, proceed as follows: Remove core tube locating screw from between core tubes. Remove six retaining nuts holding case halves together. With case halves separated, heater core can be removed. To install, reverse removal procedure.
