Preliminary Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2003 Chevrolet Malibu, and 2003 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Manufacturer does not provide testing procedures for many individual systems and components. For system testing not listed, perform related DTC testing procedure. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 3.1L CENTURY, GRAND PRIX & MALIBU article.

After all checks have been performed, verify customer complaint and locate correct symptom. Check items indicated under that symptom. Not all items listed under each symptom apply to all models and systems. These procedures will normally recommend testing of a specific system or component, such as EGR, ignition, TCC, etc. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - 3.1L CENTURY, GRAND PRIX & MALIBU article for test procedures.

NOTE: If PCM displays data but engine fails to start, see NO-START DIAGNOSIS in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - 3.1L CENTURY, GRAND PRIX & MALIBU article.
