Test 4: One Window Is Inoperative From Individual Switch (Except Left Front)

  1. Disconnect inoperative window switch connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, backprobe inoperative window switch connector terminal "B" (Purple wire on rear doors; Tan wire on right front door). If test light illuminates, go to step  3 . If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  2. On rear windows, check for open in Purple wire between inoperative window switch connector terminal "B" and master switch assembly. On right front window, check for open in Tan wire between inoperative window switch connector terminal "B" and master switch assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If all circuits are okay, replace master switch assembly. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. With test light still connected between battery voltage and inoperative window switch connector terminal "B", press inoperative window switch on master switch assembly to DOWN position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  5 .
  4. On rear windows, check for short to ground in Purple wire between inoperative window switch connector terminal "B" and master switch assembly. On right front window, check for short to ground in Tan wire between inoperative window switch connector terminal "B" and master switch assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If all circuits are okay, replace master switch assembly. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, backprobe inoperative window switch connector terminal "E" (Dark Green wire on left rear door; Light Green wire on right rear door; Light Blue wire on right front door). If test light illuminates, go to step  7 . If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  6. On left rear door, check for open in Dark Green wire between left rear window switch connector terminal "E" and master switch assembly. On right rear door, check for open in Light Green wire between right rear window switch connector terminal "E" and master switch assembly. On right front door, check for open in Light Blue wire between right front window switch connector terminal "E" and master switch assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If all circuits are okay, replace master switch assembly. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  7. With test light still connected between battery voltage and inoperative window switch connector terminal "E", press inoperative window switch on master switch assembly to UP position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  9 .
  8. On left rear door, check for short to ground in Dark Green wire between left rear window switch connector terminal "E" and master switch assembly. On right rear door, check for short to ground in Light Green wire between right rear window switch connector terminal "E" and master switch assembly. On right front door, check for short to ground in Light Blue wire between right front window switch connector terminal "E" and master switch assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If all circuits are okay, replace master switch assembly. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  9. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe inoperative window switch connector terminal "A" (Brown wire). If test light illuminates, go to step  11 . If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  10. Repair open or poor connection in Brown wire between inoperative window switch connector terminal "A" and splice S501. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  11. Connect inoperative window switch connector. Disconnect inoperative window regulator motor connector. Connect a test light between window regulator motor connector terminals "A" and "B". Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Press inoperative window switch to UP and DOWN positions while observing test light. If test light illuminates in both positions, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate in both positions, go to step  13 .
  12. Replace inoperative window regulator motor. See WINDOW MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  13. Disconnect inoperative window switch connector. Check for open or short to ground in Brown wire between inoperative window switch connector terminal "D" and inoperative window regulator motor connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If Brown wire is okay, go to next step.
  14. Check for open or short to ground in Dark Blue wire between inoperative window switch connector terminal "C" and inoperative window regulator motor connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If Dark Blue wire is okay, go to next step.
  15. Replace inoperative window switch. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
