SERVICE INFORMATION
This bulletin is being issued to provide removal and installation procedures for the transmission shift cable and transmission shift control assembly for the Oldsmobile Bravada. These procedures were inadvertently omitted from the 1996 S/T Truck Service Manual.
TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE (FLOOR SHIFT)
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
See Fig 1 , see Fig 2 & See Fig 3 .
- Apply parking brake.
- Shift the transmission into neutral.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Transmission shift cable end from ball stud on shift lever at the transmission.
- Front differential carrier shield nuts.
- Front differential carrier shield.
- Cable retainer nut from front differential carrier shield stud.
- Retainer clip from transmission shift cable locator at transmission cable bracket.
- Squeeze locking tabs on transmission shift cable locator to remove from transmission cable bracket.
- Lower vehicle.
- Front floor console. Refer to Section 10A4 of the 1996 S/T Truck Service Manual.
- Transmission shift cable end from ball stud on shift control assembly.
- Retainer clip from transmission shift cable locator at shift control assembly.
- Squeeze locking tabs on transmission shift cable locator to remove from shift control assembly.
- Left front door sill trim plate. Refer to Section 10A4 of the 1996 S/T Truck Service Manual.
- Left cowl kick panel. Refer to Section 10A4 of the 1996 S/T Truck Service Manual.
- Roll back front carpet to provide access to shift cable assembly.
- Release transmission shift cable from retainer at accelerator pedal bracket.
- Release transmission shift cable at floor grommet and feed cable up through floor to remove from vehicle.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
See Fig 1 , see Fig 2 & See Fig 3 .
- Feed transmission shift cable down through floor to install to vehicle.
- Push down on floor cable grommet to secure.
- Shift cable to retainer at accelerator pedal bracket.
- With end of shift cable routed to shift control assembly, roll front carpet forward to original position.
- Left cowl kick panel.
- Left front door sill trim plate.
- Transmission shift cable locator to shift control assembly and engage locking tabs.
- Retainer clip to transmission shift cable locator.
- Transmission shift cable end to ball stud on shift control assembly.
- Front floor console.
- Raise vehicle.
- Transmission shift cable locator to transmission cable bracket and engage locking tabs.
- Retainer clip to transmission shift cable locator at transmission cable bracket.
- Secure cable retainer to front differential carrier shield stud and install nut. Tighten Nut to 26 N.m (19 ft-lb).
- Front differential carrier shield.
- Front differential carrier shield nuts. Tighten Nuts to 23 N.m (17 ft-lb).
- Connect transmission shift cable end to ball stud on shift lever at the transmission.
- Adjust transmission shift cable. Refer to "Shift Cable Adjustment" in Section 7A14D of the 1996 S/T Truck Service Manual.
TRANSMISSION SHIFT CONTROL ASSEMBLY (FLOOR SHIFT)
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
- Apply parking brake.
- Shift the transmission into neutral.
- Front floor console. Refer to Section 10A4 of the 1996 S/T Truck Service Manual.
- Transmission shift cable end from ball stud on shift control assembly.
- Retainer clip from transmission shift cable locator at transmission shift control assembly.
- Squeeze tabs on transmission shift cable locator to remove from shift control assembly.
- Electrical connectors as necessary.
- Shift control assembly nuts.
- Shift control assembly from vehicle.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
- Shift control assembly to vehicle.
- Shift control assembly nuts. Tighten Nuts to 25 N.m (18 ft-lb).
- Electrical connectors as necessary.
- Transmission shift cable locator to shift control assembly and engage locking tabs.
- Retainer clip to transmission shift cable locator.
- Transmission shift cable end to ball stud on shift control assembly.
- Front floor console.
