Diagnostic System Check: Notes

Diagnostic system check is an organized approach to identifying a problem created by an Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) or Variable Effort Steering (VES) malfunction. This should be the starting point for any ABS or VES diagnosis because it directs technician to next logical step in diagnosing a complaint.

Serial data is transmitted through Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) terminal No. 2 (ABS without VES) or No. 1 (ABS with VES). Switched ignition voltage is supplied through EBCM terminal No. 14, battery voltage is supplied through EBCM terminal No. 15, and switched battery voltage is supplied through EBCM terminal "A". Ground is supplied through EBCM terminal "B". See Figure .

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart on Figure .
