Anti-Lock Brake System

During normal driving and braking operations, ABS-III functions like a conventional brake system. Each wheel sensor constantly sends an A/C voltage signal to anti-lock brake controller. This information is translated to wheel-rotation speed. When anti-lock brake controller detects wheel lock-up, it activates appropriate solenoid to pulse on and off rapidly, regulating hydraulic pressure to each wheel. A slight pulsation should be felt through brake pedal, indicating ABS-III is working.

Red and Amber warning lights should come on when ignition is turned on and vehicle is started. If either light stays on longer than 30 seconds after vehicle is started, system malfunction is indicated. See DIAGNOSIS & TESTING .

Red warning light is activated if parking brake is applied, brake fluid is low or accumulator pressure is low. Amber ANTI-LOCK warning light, controlled by anti-lock brake controller, comes on if problem is detected in system. When light is on, ABS-III can be partially or totally disabled.
