Note on Intermittents

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1990 Cadillac Fleetwood and 1990 Cadillac DeVille. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The vehicle must be driven for 5 seconds in test conditions for Code E39 to occur. This may require an extended test drive of at least 15 minutes of operation at greater 45 MPH. If customer complaint indicates that code occurs after an extended drive, check for signs of transmission overheating. Transmission sump oil temperatures in excess of 412°F (211°C) will cause transmission over temperature switch to open the VCC solenoid circuit and disable VCC.
