NOTE:
The tools covered in this bulletin are not new, they were previously shipped to each dealer. This bulletin updates the Applied Vehicles and amends the Service Procedure of NTB02-059. Please discard all paper copies of previous versions.
SERVICE INFORMATION
If the fuel pressure on an applied vehicle needs to be checked; use the following tools which are Nissan essential tools in your inventory:
- Fuel Pressure Gauge Kit J-44321
- Fuel Pressure Adapter J-44321-6
- Fuel Line Quick Connector Release Tool J-45488
The Service Procedure provides fuel pressure gauge connecting instructions for each Applied Vehicle.
NOTE:
- Two J-45488 Quick Connector Release tools were sent to each dealer. It is recommended that one be stored with the Fuel Pressure Gauge Kit (J-44321) and the other in the Special Tool Storage System (STSS) drawer #5.
- It is recommended that adapter J-44321-6 be stored with the Fuel Pressure Gauge Kit (J-44321).
- The black plastic lock ring may fall out of the adapter end. If it is lost, use Quick Connector Release tool J-45488 to remove adapter from the vehicle fuel line.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE CONNECTION FOR
2002-2003 Altima with QR25DE Engine
2003-2004 Sentra with QR25DE Engine
- Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system.
- See the FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE .
- Remove the plastic engine cover (see Fig 3 ).
- Disconnect the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose from the cam cover (see Fig 4 ).
- Remove the plastic lock from the fuel line quick connector by pulling it to the side (see Fig 5 ).
- Remove the fuel line using the fuel line quick connector release tool J-45488.
- Install the fuel pressure gauge adapter J44321-6.
- Connect the adapter end (with the black plastic lock ring) to the engine's fuel rail tube. Push it down until it snaps (locks) into place (see Fig 7 ).
- Insert the other end of the adapter into the fuel line you removed (see Fig 7 ).
CAUTION: Be careful NOT to distort or bend the fuel rail tube when installing the fuel pressure gauge adapter. - Make sure the fuel pressure gauge hose is securely connected to adapter J-44321-6 (see Fig 7 ).
- Perform the fuel pressure test.
Remove Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter.
- Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system. Refer to the FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the fuel pressure gauge adapter (see Fig 8
).
- First, lift up on the black plastic lock ring
- Then, pull up on the hose portion of the adapter.
- Disconnect the other end of the fuel pressure gauge adapter from the fuel line.
- This is done in the same way as releasing the fuel line from the fuel rail. See step 5.
- You'll use the same quick connector release tool.
- Lubricate the O-ring, located inside the fuel line quick connector, with Canopus 13 Mineral Oil (PN 999MP-AJ001P).
- Re-install the fuel line to the fuel rail tube
- Make sure the quick connector is fully seated and locked (snapped) into place.
- Re-install the plastic lock over the quick connector.
- Re-connect the PCV hose to the cam cover.
- Operate the fuel system and confirm there are NO fuel leaks.
- Re-install the top plastic engine cover and securing bolts.
FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE CONNECTION FOR
2000-2002 Sentra CA (Clean Air) with QG18DE engine
2003-2004 Sentra with QG18DE engine
- Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system.
- Refer to the FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE .
- Remove the bolt that secures the fuel line (see Fig 9 ).
- Remove the fuel line using the fuel line quick connector release tool J-45488.
- Install the fuel pressure gauge adapter.
- Connect the adapter end (with the black plastic lock ring) to the engine's fuel rail tube. Push it until it snaps (locks) into place (see Fig 11 ).
- Insert the other end of the adapter into the fuel line you removed (see Fig 11 ).
CAUTION: Be careful NOT to distort or bend the fuel rail tube when installing the fuel pressure gauge adapter. - Make sure the fuel pressure gauge hose is securely connected to adapter J-44321-6. See Fig 11 .
- Perform the fuel pressure test.
Remove the Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter
- Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system.
- Refer to the FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the fuel pressure gauge adapter from the fuel rail tube (see Fig 12
).
- First, push on the black plastic lock ring.
- Then, pull the hose portion of the adapter towards the drivers side of the vehicle.
- Disconnect the other end of the fuel pressure gauge adapter from the fuel line.
- This is done in the same way as releasing the fuel line from the fuel rail. See step 3.
- You'll use the same quick connector release tool
- Lubricate the O-ring, located inside the fuel line quick connector, with Canopus 13 Mineral Oil (PN 999MP-AJ001P).
- Re-install the fuel line to the fuel rail tube, making sure the quick connector is fully seated and locked into position.
- Operate the fuel system and confirm there are NO fuel leaks.
FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE CONNECTION FOR
2004 Maxima
- Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system.
- Refer to the FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE .
- Locate the fuel line at the left (driver's) side of the engine (see Fig 13 ).
- Remove the plastic lock from the fuel line quick connector (see Fig 14 ).
- Remove the fuel line using the fuel line quick connector release tool J-45488.
- Insert the quick connector release tool into the end of the quick connector. You should feel it snap into place (see Fig 15 ).
- Pull the fuel line towards the driver's side of the vehicle to disconnect it (see Fig 16 ).
NOTE: Make sure to remove the shop towel (rag) used to catch fuel drips when procedure is complete. - Install the fuel pressure gauge adapter (see Fig 17
).
- Connect the adapter end (with the black plastic lock ring) to the engine's fuel rail tube. Push it until it snaps (locks) into place
- Insert the other end of the adapter into the fuel line you removed.
CAUTION: Be careful NOT to distort or bend the fuel rail tube when installing the fuel pressure gauge adapter. - Make sure the fuel pressure gauge hose is securely connected to adapter J-44321-6.
- Perform the fuel pressure test.

- Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system.
- Refer to the FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the fuel pressure gauge adapter (see Fig 19
).
- First, push on the black plastic lock ring.
- Then, pull the hose portion of the adapter towards the drivers side of the vehicle.
- Disconnect the other end of the adapter from the fuel line using the fuel line quick connector release tool (J-45488).
- Lubricate the O-ring, located inside the fuel line quick connector, with Canopus 13 Mineral Oil (PN 999MP-AJ001P).
- Re-install the fuel line to the fuel rail tube, making sure the quick connector is fully seated and locked into position.
- Re-install the plastic lock over the quick connector (see Fig 14 ).
- Operate the fuel system and confirm there are NO fuel leaks.
FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE CONNECTION FOR
2004 Quest
- Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system.
- Refer to the FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE .
- Locate the fuel line at the left (driver's) side of the engine (see Fig 20 ).
- Remove the plastic lock from the fuel line quick connector (see Fig 14 ).
- Remove the fuel line using the fuel line quick connector release tool J-45488.
- Insert the quick connector release tool into the end of the quick connector. You should feel it snap into place (see Fig 15 ).
- Pull the fuel line towards the driver's side of the vehicle to disconnect it (see Fig 16 ).
NOTE: Make sure to remove the shop towel (rag) used to catch fuel drips when procedure is complete. - Install the fuel pressure gauge adapter J-44321-6 (see Fig 21
).
- Route the adapter hose end (with the black plastic lock ring) under the air intake resonators.
- Push it onto the engine's fuel rail tube until it snaps (locks) into place.
- Insert the other end of the adapter into the fuel line you removed (see Fig 22 ).
CAUTION: Be careful NOT to distort or bend the fuel rail tube when installing the fuel pressure gauge adapter. - Make sure the fuel pressure gauge hose is securely connected to adapter J-44321-6.
- Perform the fuel pressure test.
Remove the Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter
- Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system.
- Refer to the FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the fuel pressure gauge adapter (see Fig 19
).
- First, push on the black plastic lock ring.
- Then, pull the hose portion of the adapter towards the drivers side of he vehicle.
- Disconnect the other end of the adapter from the fuel line using the fuel line quick connector release tool (J-45488).
- Lubricate the O-ring, located inside the fuel line quick connector, with Canopus 13 Mineral Oil (PN 999MP-AJ001P).
- Re-install the fuel line to the fuel rail tube, making sure the quick connector is fully seated and locked into position.
- Reinstall the plastic lock over the quick connector (see Fig 14 )
- Operate the fuel system and confirm there are NO fuel leaks.
FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE
With CONSULT-II
- Connect CONSULT-II to the vehicle
- Turn the ignition switch "ON".
- Perform the "Fuel Pressure Release" function in the "Work Support Mode".
- Start the engine and let it run until it stalls.
- Crank the engine two or three times to release all fuel pressure.
- Turn the ignition switch "OFF".
Without CONSULT-II
- Remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box.
- Start the engine and let it run until it stalls.
- Crank the engine two or three times to release all fuel pressure.
- Turn the ignition switch "OFF".
- Re-install the fuel pump fuse AFTER connecting the fuel pressure gauge.
