Current Codes Using Air Bag Warning Light

  1. Turn ignition off then on to enter USER mode. In USER mode:
    • If light comes on for about 7 seconds and goes off, system is okay (no fault codes are stored in memory).
    • If light does not come on, go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
    • If light comes on and stays on, air bag has deployed or part of diagnosis sensor unit is defective. Go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
    • If light comes on for about 7 seconds and flashes on and off, fault codes are stored in memory. Go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch off. To enter self-diagnostics and retrieve fault codes, turn ignition switch on. After AIR BAG warning light has been on for 7 seconds and goes off, turn ignition switch off within one second. Wait at least 3 seconds. Repeat on and off procedure 3 times. Turn ignition switch on. AIR BAG warning light is now in diagnosis mode.
  3. In DIAGNOSIS mode:
    • If light flashes a marker sequence (7 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, 3 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF) and then repeats 3 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, previous diagnostic codes may not have been erased or past intermittent conditions have been detected. To continue diagnosis, go to INTERMITTENT CODES USING CONSULT TESTER  under DIAGNOSTICS
    • If light flashes a marker sequence (7 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, 3 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF) and then flashes quickly, record quick flashes. Quick flashes represent fault codes. For example, 2 quick flashes represent Fault Code 2: Driver-Side Air Bag Module. Go to FAULT CODES (DRIVER OR PASSENGER)  .
    • If light flashes a marker sequence (7 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, 1.5 seconds ON, 0.5 seconds OFF, 1.5 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF) and then flashes quickly, record quick flashes. Quick flashes represent fault codes. For example, one quick flash represents Fault Code 1: Right Side Air Bag Module. Go to FAULT CODES (SIDE)  .
  4. Turn ignition off and disconnect both battery cables. Repair system. After repairing air bag system, connect battery cables, open driver-side door and turn ignition on.
  5. If light flashes a marker sequence (7 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, 3 seconds ON) and does not begin a series of quick flashes, no malfunction is detected and no further repair is required. Turn ignition off and reset from DIAGNOSIS mode to USER mode.
  6. If light flashes a marker sequence (7 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, 3 seconds ON) and begins series of quick flashes, the system has a problem and must be repaired. Quick flashes represent fault codes. Go to step  3 .
