DTC 34: Knock Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1993 Nissan Maxima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The knock sensor has a sub-harness assembly. This test is performed at the wiring harness-to-sub-harness connector.
  1. Check Input Signal Circuit  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM. Disconnect knock sensor sub-harness connector. See Fig 1 . Check for continuity between wiring harness connector terminal "a" (White wire) and ECM terminal No. 23 (White wire). See Figure and Fig 2 . If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
  2. Check Ground Circuit  - Turn ignition off. Check continuity between knock sensor connector terminal "b" and engine ground. See Fig 3 . If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
  3. Check Component  - Inspect knock sensor. See I - SYS/COMP TESTS article. Replace knock sensor if necessary and perform FINAL CHECK  in this article.
