Hydraulic System Pressure Check

  1. Check fluid level. Start engine and let idle. Bring fluid to a temperature of between 140-176°F (60-80°C). Stop engine. Disconnect high pressure line at pump. Connect pressure gauge between shut-off valve and oil pump. Open shut-off valve.
  2. Check fluid level. Bleed system. Run engine for about 5 seconds. Check fluid level. Restart engine and let idle. Turn steering wheel from lock-to-lock several times to expel air from system.
  3. Turn wheel to full lock position while checking pressure. Pump pressure should be 1109-1194 psi (78-84 kg/cm2 ) for Pathfinder and Pickup or 1138 psi (80 kg/cm2 ) for Van.
CAUTION: Do not hold at lock position for more than 15 seconds.
  4. If pressure is incorrect, slowly close shut-off valve. If pressure is too low or high after shut-off valve is closed, the pump is faulty. If pressure is now okay, steering gear is faulty.
