Test Procedures

  1. Disconnect knock sensor 2-pin connector. Check knock sensor connector for loose, damaged, or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair or replace connector. Go to step  6.
  2. Check for continuity between ground and knock sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire between knock sensor and ground. Go to step  6.
  3. Disconnect PCM connector D-109. Check PCM connector D-109 for loose, damaged, or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair or replace connector. Go to step  6. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Check continuity between knock sensor connector terminal No. 1 and PCM connector D-109 terminal No. 90. Continuity should exist. Check continuity between ground and knock sensor connector terminal No. 1. Continuity should not exist. If continuity is not as specified, repair White wire. Go to step  6. If continuity is as specified, go to next step.
  5. Replace knock sensor. Test drive vehicle. Check for DTCs. If DTC P0325 is output, replace PCM. Go to next step. If DTC P0325 is not output, inspection is complete.
  6. Start engine. Using scan tool, check data list item No. 44 (ignition coils and power transistor). While observing scan tool, disconnect knock sensor connector, then reconnect knock sensor connector. When knock sensor is disconnected, timing should be more retarded than when knock sensor is connected. If timing changes as specified, inspection is complete. If timing does not change as specified, go to step  1 and retry diagnostic procedure.
