Ventilation Solenoid

  1. Locate ventilation solenoid. On Montero, ventilation solenoid is located in engine compartment. On all other vehicles, ventilation solenoid is located near fuel tank. See Fig 1-Fig 6 .
  2. Disconnect ventilation solenoid electrical connector. Check resistance across ventilation solenoid terminals. Resistance should be 17-21 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If resistance is not as specified, replace ventilation solenoid. If resistance is as specified, go to next step.
  3. Mark and disconnect vacuum hoses from ventilation solenoid. Connect hand vacuum pump to ventilation solenoid port closest to terminal end of solenoid. Connect jumper wires between ventilation solenoid terminals and battery positive terminal and battery negative terminal.
  4. Apply vacuum with battery voltage applied. Vacuum should hold. Disconnect battery voltage and apply vacuum. Vacuum should leak.
