Description & Operation
WARNING:
Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See
AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
NOTE:
Multiplex control system may be referred to as Simplified Wiring System (SWS).
Multiplex control system reduces number of wires by sending multiple signals along a single wire. Multiplex control system consists of Electronic Time Alarm Control System-Electronic Control Unit (ETACS-ECU), front-ECU, column-ECU and sunroof-ECU (if equipped with sunroof). ECUs process signal data to control on/off operation of electrical loads. Multiplex control system also helps diagnose body control related communication problems by outputting Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).
