Code 16: A/C Clutch Relay Circuit

NOTE: For component terminal identification, see TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  in this article. For appropriate WIRING DIAGRAMS, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section.
  1. Remove A/C clutch relay. Check continuity between relay terminals No. 1 and 3. Connect 12-volt power source between relay terminals No. 1 and 3. Connect positive lead to terminal No. 1.
  2. With relay energized, continuity should exist between terminals No. 4 and 5. With power source removed, continuity should not exist. If A/C clutch relay is okay, go to next step. Replace relay if continuity is not as specified.
  3. Disconnect PCM connector. Turn ignition on. Turn A/C switch on. Measure voltage between PCM connector terminal No. 19 (Green wire) and ground. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 5).
  4. If battery voltage exists, connect jumper wire between PCM connector terminal No. 59 (Green/Black wire) and ground. If A/C compressor clutch is turned on, go to next step. If A/C compressor clutch is not turned on, repair A/C system as necessary.
  5. Check PCM connector, wiring harness and junction connector between A/C clutch relay and PCM. If wiring and connectors are okay, replace PCM.
