Solenoid Valve Current Check

  1. Disconnect the wiring harness connector (waterproof connector in engine compartment) from steering gear box solenoid valve. Connect voltmeter and test wire between solenoid valve connector and wiring harness connector at body side. See Figure .
    CAUTION: Do not ground solenoid terminal.
  2. Remove glove box stoppers and remove glove box by lowering. Attach Vehicle Speed Simulator (MB991139) to self-diagnosis check connector (under opening of glove box). See Figure .
  3. Check solenoid current to ensure that it is .9-1.1 amps at 0 MPH, and that current decreases as vehicle speed is increased. If current does not decrease, wiring may be damaged, connector may be disconnected or control unit may be defective. Repair or replace as needed.
NOTE: Test procedure can be performed with vehicle properly supported on hoist and wheels off the ground if VSS is not available.
