Axle Housing: Reassembly

  1. Press outer bearing on axle shaft (if removed). Ensure seal side of outer bearing faces axle flange. Apply grease to inner surface of axle housing.
  2. Using Bearing Installer (MB990932-01) and Handle (MB990938-01), install inner bearing with seal side facing companion flange (if removed). Lubricate axle housing seal area with grease.
  3. Using Seal Installer (MB990727-01) and Handle (MIT304180), install seal until it bottoms on axle housing. Install dust cover on axle housing. Apply grease to oil seal lip.
  4. Install axle shaft and spacer into axle housing. Install companion flange. Install new companion flange nut. Tighten to specification. Ensure axle shaft turns freely.
