Emergency Start Function Does Not Work With Dead Remote Battery (SI M66 06 17)

EMERGENCY START FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK WITH DEAD REMOTE BATTERY

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

SITUATION

Remote battery is dead.

• Vehicle was unlocked with the integrated, mechanical key.
  NOTE: In vehicles equipped with SA 302 alarm system, this will also activate the alarm signal.
• Check Control Message CCM ("Hold remote key at steering column") does not display when vehicle start is attempted.
• Holding backside of key against steering column (at designated spot) does not allow engine to start.

CAUSE

BDC (Body Domain Controller) software error.

CORRECTION

Reprogram vehicle using ISTA 4.08.20 or higher.

PROCEDURE

For conditions that are similar to the situation described:

1. Perform diagnosis with the latest version of ISTA 4 working through corresponding test module, if necessary.
2. Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.08.20 or higher (expected availability: 11/8/2017).

Target integration level:

17-11-520 or higher

Note that ISTA 4 will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

Always connect a MINI-approved battery charger/power supply ( SI M04 08 09  ).

PARTS INFORMATION

Parts replacement will not provide a solution to this situation.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead of 00 00 006.

Refer to KSD2/AIR for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.

Work time labor operation code 61 00 006 is not considered a Main labor operation; however, it does require an individual punch time and an explanation on the repair order and in the claim comments.

During the same workshop visit, if a vehicle also requires another Technical Campaign or repair that also includes programming and encoding the control units, the programming procedure may only be invoiced one time.
