SITUATION

ABS/DSC lamps lit in instrument cluster.

Fault codes may be saved in the DSC control unit:

CAUSE

Rear wheel pulse generator (wheel speed sensor) retaining screw is loose, missing or broken.

CORRECTION

Replace retaining screw on both rear wheel pulse generators.

PROCEDURE

  1. Inspect rear wheel pulse generator.

    Is the generator firmly attached at the top of the rear wheel carrier? 

    YES- continue with ISTA diagnosis. This bulletin does not apply.

    NO- Continue to next step.

  2. Check the condition of the retaining screw.

    Did the retaining screw break off in the mounting hole? 

    YES- Remove portion of the retaining screw lodged in the hole. Go to step 4.

    NO - Continue to next step.

  3. Remove retaining screw.
  4. Reinstall pulse generator with new mounting screw (part #12 72 6 858 057).
  5. Repeat procedure on other wheel.

34 99 000 2 FRU Inspect both rear wheel pulse generators and replace one loose/missing retaining screw.
Or:
34 99 000 5 FRU Inspect both rear wheel pulse generators and drill out one broken retaining screw.

34 99 000 3 FRU Inspect both rear wheel pulse generators and replace both loose/missing retaining screws
Or:
34 99 000 6 FRU Inspect both rear wheel pulse generators, replace one loose/missing retaining screw on one side and drill out a broken retaining screw on the other.
Or:
34 99 000 8 FRU Inspect both rear wheel pulse generators and drill out both broken retaining screws.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead.

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.

Work time labor operation code 34 99 000 is not considered a Main labor operation. Also, since the "work time" FRU allowance to be claimed is specified, a separate punch time is not required.

Other Repairs

If other eligible and covered work is performed as a result of performing the ISTA diagnostics and related test plans, claim this work with the applicable defect code and the labor operations listed in KSD2.
