SITUATION
ABS/DSC lamps lit in instrument cluster.
Fault codes may be saved in the DSC control unit:
- 480AAD - wheel speed sensor - rear left - smoke monitoring
- 480AAC - wheel speed sensor - rear left - unexpected jump in the signal
- 4809B9 - wheel speed sensor - rear left - driving off recognition faulty
- 480716 - wheel speed sensor - rear left - plausibility: direction of rotation
- 4809B7 - wheel speed sensor - rear left - missing tooth
- 480719 - wheel speed sensor - rear right - plausibility: direction of rotation
- 480686 - wheel speed sensor - rear right - driving off recognition faulty
- 480AB3 - wheel speed sensor - rear right - unexpected jump in the signal
- 480AB4 - wheel speed sensor - rear right - smoke monitoring
- 4809C2 - wheel speed sensor - rear right - missing tooth
CAUSE
Rear wheel pulse generator (wheel speed sensor) retaining screw is loose, missing or broken.
CORRECTION
Replace retaining screw on both rear wheel pulse generators.
PROCEDURE
- Inspect rear wheel pulse generator.
Is the generator firmly attached at the top of the rear wheel carrier?
YES- continue with ISTA diagnosis. This bulletin does not apply.
NO- Continue to next step.
- Check the condition of the retaining screw.
Did the retaining screw break off in the mounting hole?
YES- Remove portion of the retaining screw lodged in the hole. Go to step 4.
NO - Continue to next step.
- Remove retaining screw.
- Reinstall pulse generator with new mounting screw (part #12 72 6 858 057).
- Repeat procedure on other wheel.

Work time labor operation code 34 99 000 is not considered a Main labor operation. Also, since the "work time" FRU allowance to be claimed is specified, a separate punch time is not required.
