TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): SI M63 02 14, Date of Issue:  May, 2014
MINI: F56 (Cooper, Cooper S); Produced to April 23, 2014; With options:, 05A2 (LED headlight), 05A4 (LED headlight with enhanced functions)
GROUP: Lights

SUBJECT

LED Headlight Malfunction Displayed, but Lights Function Properly

SITUATION

A check control message or warning light is on, indicating a headlight malfunction, but the lights operate correctly.

The BDC (Body Domain Controller) fault code 8041B6: "Headlight (LWR): System failed" is the only fault stored. This fault can occur after QC1 is performed or after a vehicle software update.

CAUSE

BDC (Body Domain Controller) software error

CORRECTION

Program the vehicles with ISTA/P 2.53.3 (or higher).

New I-Level: F056-14-03-502 or higher

PROCEDURE

  1. Perform diagnosis with ISTA and identify that FC 80401B6 is the only fault that is stored. If other faults are stored, work through the corresponding test plans.
  2. Update the software with ISTA/P 2.52.3 or higher. Make sure the BDC is included in the measures plan for the update. If not, select the BDC from the control unit list and add programming and coding to the measures plan.
NOTE: ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet/Aftersales Portal/Service/Workshop Technology/Vehicle Programming.

  3. After updating the software, the following prerequisites must be fulfilled for starting up the ride-height sensors. The test plan can be found under the Service Function: 03 body/lighting/ride-height-calibration:
    • The ignition is switched on.
    • The vehicle is on as even a surface as possible.
    • The wheels are in a straight-ahead position.
NOTE: During the entire start-up process for the ride-height sensors, the load of the vehicle must not be changed. The doors must not be opened and the engine must not be started. This can lead to an incorrect adjustment of the running gear.

Program the vehicle using the latest version of ISTA/P.

Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply.

For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet/Aftersales Portal/Service/Workshop Technology/Vehicle Programming.
