SUBJECT

Check Control Message "Battery Discharge" Displays Intermittently

SITUATION

The customer states that a "Battery Discharge" check control message is displayed intermittently when the vehicle is started.

The following fault code is also stored:

DME "213901 - Power management: Reduction or switch-off of individual electrical consumers"

CAUSE

DME/IBS software error

CORRECTION

Program the vehicle with ISTA/P 3.55 or higher.

PROCEDURE

  1. Perform a vehicle test with ISTA to identify that fault "213901" is stored in the DME.
  2. Perform the energy diagnosis test plan to make sure that the vehicle and battery are good, and not causing the check control message. Follow the energy diagnosis recommendations if the vehicle or battery has a problem identified by the test plan.
  3. Perform the service function "Evaluating the battery state of charge." The test plan can be accessed in ISTA via the following path: Service functions / 03 Body / Voltage supply / Battery / evaluating the battery state of charge.
  4. If any of the values listed for the last five days are between 1% and 10 % as seen in the illustration, program the vehicle using ISTA/P 3.55. Select complete vehicle coding.
NOTE: The other values displayed will typically be greater than 70%.

Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply  (SI  M04 08 09  ).
