Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mercury Marauder, 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis, and 2004 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  2. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder (11582).
    1. Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch lock cylinder and turn to the RUN position.
    2. Push the ignition switch lock cylinder release tab with a punch while pulling out the ignition switch lock cylinder.

  3. Twist the tilt wheel handle and shank (3F609) and remove.

  4. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds (3530).
    • Remove the screws.

  5. Position the LH instrument panel insulator aside.
    • Remove the three pin-type retainers.

  6. Remove the lower instrument panel steering column cover.
    • Remove the screws.
    • Unhook the parking brake release handle and position aside.

  7. Remove the bolts and the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.

  8. Remove the transceiver assembly.
    1. Remove the screw.
    2. NOTE: Only apply pressure below the key cylinder rib.
    3. Release the transceiver over the rib on the lock cylinder housing.
    4. Disconnect the electrical connector locator and electrical connector.

  9. NOTE: No key re-initialization needs to occur with the removal or installation of a new PATS transceiver.
  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
