Pinpoint Test A: Shift Interlock System Does Not Release/Lock Correctly

  1. A1 CHECK FOR CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION (CPP) JUMPER PLUG ON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED VEHICLES 
    • Inspect CPP jumper plug for correct installation.
    • Is the CPP jumper plug correctly installed? 
    1. Yes  : GO to A2.
    2. No  : INSTALL the CPP jumper plug. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. A2 TEST THE BRAKE LIGHTS 
    • Apply the brake pedal and view the brake lights.
    • Do the brake lights illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  A8.
    2. No  : GO to A3.
  3. A3 TEST F2.32 (5A) 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Check fuse: Fuse F2.32 (5A).
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  A5.
    2. No  : GO to A4.
  4. A4 TEST CIRCUIT 276 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Brake ON/OFF Switch C278.
    • Measure the resistance of circuit 276 (BN) at brake ON/OFF switch C278.

    • Is the resistance 10K ohms or less? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR circuit 276 (BN) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : GO to A5.
  5. A5 TEST CIRCUIT 276 (BN) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between the output side of fuse F2.32 (5A) and the brake ON/OFF switch C278, circuit 276 (BN).

    • Is resistance 5 ohms or less? 
    1. Yes  : GO to A6.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 276 (BN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. A6 TEST THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SWITCH 
    • Measure the resistance of the brake pedal position switch while open (OFF) and closed (ON).

    • Is the resistance of the switch greater than 10K ohms while OFF and 5 ohms or less while ON? 
    1. Yes  : GO to A7.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new brake pedal position switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. A7 TEST CIRCUIT 810 (RD/LG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Shift Lock Actuator C2008.
    • Measure the resistance of circuit 810 (RD/LG), shift lock actuator C2008.

    • Is the resistance 10K ohms or less? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR circuit 810 (RD/LG) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : GO to A8.
  8. A8 TEST CIRCUIT 810 (RD/LG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance of circuit 810 (RD/LG) between the shift lock actuator C2008 and the brake ON/OFF switch C278.

    • Is the resistance 5 ohms or less? 
    1. Yes  : GO to A9.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 810 (RD/LG) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. A9 TEST FOR B+ ON CIRCUIT 605 (RD) 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage at the shift lock actuator C2008, circuit 605 (RD).

    • Is B+ present? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  A13.
    2. No  : GO to A10.
  10. A10 TEST FUSE F2.20 (10A) 
    • Key in START position.
    • Check fuse: Fuse F2.20 (10A).
    • Is the resistance of the fuse 5 ohms or less? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  A12.
    2. No  : GO to A11.
  11. A11 TEST CIRCUIT 605 (RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance at shift lock actuator C2008, circuit 605 (RD).

    • Is the resistance 10K ohms or less? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : GO to A12.
  12. A12 TEST CIRCUIT 605 (RD) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance of circuit 605 (RD) between the output side of fuse F2.20 (10A) and the shift lock actuator C2008.

    • Is the resistance 5 ohms or less? 
    1. Yes  : GO to A13.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 605 (RD) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  13. A13 TEST CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance of the shift lock actuator C2008, circuit 57 (BK).

    • Is the resistance 5 ohms or less? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new shift lock actuator. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 57 (BK) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
