Hissing Sound When Removing Fuel Cap

NOTE: After each service or repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components and perform DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURES under QUICK TEST in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - VILLAGER article. Clear DTCs and repeat QUICK TEST procedures to ensure all EEC-V systems are working properly and DTCs are no longer present.

NOTE: Enter this test only when all steps under QUICK TEST have been successfully completed and hiss still exists when fuel cap is opened or if directed here from another test or chart.

Checking EVAP System For Blockage Between Fuel Tank & Water Separator

Disconnect EVAP canister purge line between fuel tank and vacuum cut valve at fuel tank. Blow air into EVAP purge line. Ensure air flows freely from water separator. If air flows freely, check and repair fuel tank lines for blockage. Retest system for normal operation. If air does not flow freely, go to next step.

Checking Blockage Of Vacuum Cut Valve

Disconnect EVAP canister purge line between EVAP canister and vacuum cut valve from EVAP canister. Blow air into EVAP purge line. Ensure air flows freely through vacuum cut valve towards canister, but not in other direction. If air flows freely in one direction only, go to next step. If air does not flow freely in one direction, replace vacuum cut valve. Retest system for normal operation.

Checking Water Separator

Remove water separator. Blow air into water separator. If air flows freely, go to next step. If air does not flow freely, replace water separator. Retest system for normal operation.

Checking EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve

Blow air into EVAP canister vent control valve. If air flows freely, go to next step. If air does not flow freely, replace EVAP canister vent valve. Retest system for normal operation.

Checking EVAP Canister For Water Saturation

Remove EVAP canister with canister vent control valve attached. Hold EVAP canister so vacuum ports points to the ground. If water drains from EVAP canister, replace canister and water separator. Retest system for normal operation. If water does not drain from EVAP canister, go to next step.

Weighing EVAP Canister

Weight EVAP canister with canister vent control valve attached. If EVAP canister weight more than 4 lbs. (1.8 kg), replace EVAP canister and water separator. Retest system for normal operation. If EVAP canister weights less than 4 lbs. (1.8 kg), reconnect all disconnected components. Perform EVAP system leak test. See EVAP EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes leak test, perform EVAP repair verification drive cycle. See EVAP EMISSION REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE .
