DESCRIPTION

DRIVEABILITY - UPDATE WIRING HARNESS WHEN REPLACING FUEL INJECTOR

ELECTRICAL - UPDATE WIRING HARNESS WHEN REPLACING FUEL INJECTOR

ISSUE

If during normal service, the fuel injectors require replacement, install an updated wiring harness.

ACTION

When replacing fuel injectors during service, perform the following update. Install service Jumper Harness XF5Z-12A690-AC to re-route the power for the injectors through the ignition switch. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

If normal diagnostics leads to fuel injector replacement, service the injector(s) as necessary per the appropriate Workshop Manual, then install injector jumper harness. Refer to the following Service Procedure for jumper harness installation details.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Locate and disconnect C149, located on the top right side of the engine compartment (Fig 1 ).
3. Remove the two (2) (outer) red terminal retainers from the engine harness (female) side of the connector (Fig 2 ).
4. Remove the Blue/Yellow wire from pin 9 location (Fig 3 ).
   NOTE: IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO CAREFULLY PEEL BACK CONVOLUTED TUBING TO GAIN ADDITIONAL ACCESS TO WIRES (Fig 5 ).
5. Remove the solid Yellow wire from pin 30 location (Fig 3 ).
6. Disconnect the two empty hard shells from the jumper harness and remove locking wedges (Fig 4 ).
7. Insert the Blue/Yellow jumper harness wire (female end) into pin location 9 on the engine harness side of C149 (Fig 3 ).
8. Use Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound XG-3-A or equivalent to seal the empty pin location 30 on the back of C149.
9. Re-install the two (2) red terminal retainers into the front of C149.
10. Insert the larger Blue/Yellow engine harness wire into the large hard shell connector, verify pin location/orientation and install locking wedge (Fig 5 ).
11. Insert the smaller Yellow wire into the small hard shell connector, verify pin location/orientation and insert locking wedge (Fig 5 ).
12. Connect the jumper harness hard-shells to their respective engine harness hard-shells.
13. Reconnect C149 and re-secure convoluted tubing if necessary.
14. Use tie straps to secure the jumper harness to the existing engine harness (Fig 6 ).
15. Reconnect negative battery cable.
16. Verify proper engine operation.
17. If the engine fails to start, verify proper pin orientation on the two newly installed connectors.
