Test B: All Door Locks Are Inoperative Using Remote Transmitter-All Door Remote System
NOTE:
On wagons with power liftgate use this test when liftgate will only lock from door lock switches or remote transmitter lock button and will only unlock using trunk button on remote transmitter.
- Operate door locks from driver's door lock switch. If door locks operate properly, go to next step. If only liftgate is inoperative, perform TEST F: SINGLE DOOR LOCK IS INOPERATIVE (DRIVER'S DOOR ONLY REMOTE SYSTEM) . If any other door lock problems are present, see appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK RELEASE article to continue diagnosis.
- Press each button on remote transmitter. If doors will not lock, go to next step. If driver's door only unlocks when unlock button on remote transmitter is pressed twice, go to step 5) . If only driver's door unlocks, go to step 4) . If remote transmitter does not operate, go to step 8) .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect RAP module harness connector C404 (located in luggage compartment/trunk, behind right trim panel on ZX2 coupe and sedan, or located behind left rear quarter trim panel on wagon). Ensure all doors are unlocked. Connect a jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 17 (Gray wire) at RAP module 22-pin harness connector C404. See Fig 1 . If all doors do not lock, repair open in Gray wire between terminal No. 17 at RAP module harness connector C404, in line connector C223 (located near CJB), splice S258 (located at passenger's side kick panel near door lock relay) going to driver's front door, terminal No. 9 at in line connector C225 (located at driver's side kick panel in hole towards door), in line connector C505 (located in driver's front door near speaker) and driver's door lock switch connector C509 (sedan and wagon) or C510 (ZX2 coupe). Back to splice S258 to splice S257 (located at passenger's side kick panel, near door lock relay), in line connector C262 (located at passenger's side kick panel), terminal No. 4 at door lock relay connector C293. Back to splice S257, in line connector C209 (located at CJB), in line connector C606 (near passenger's front door lock actuator) and terminal No. 4 at passenger's door lock switch harness connector C609. If all doors lock, remove jumper wire and reconnect RAP module connector C404. If a second programmed remote transmitter for vehicle exists, go to step 7) . Back to splice S255 to in line connector C209 (located on CJB), in line connector C606 (located at passenger's front door lock actuator) and terminal No. 4 at passenger's side front door lock harness connector C609. If all doors unlock, remove jumper wire and reconnect RAP module connector C404. If a second programmed remote transmitter for vehicle exists, go to step 7) . If a second programmed remote transmitter for vehicle does not exist, program a second remote transmitter and go to step 7) . See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect RAP module Gray, 26-pin connector C405 (located in luggage compartment/trunk, behind right trim panel on ZX2 coupe and sedan, or located behind left rear quarter trim panel on wagon). Ensure driver's door is locked. Connect a jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Purple wire) at RAP module 26-pin connector C405. See Figure . If driver's door does not unlock, remove jumper wire and go to next step. If driver's door unlocks, remove jumper wire and reconnect RAP module connector C405. If a second programmed remote transmitter for vehicle exists, go to step 7) . If a second programmed remote transmitter for vehicle does not exist, program a second remote transmitter and go to step 7) . See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
- Remove door lock relay. See DOOR LOCK RELAY under REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Purple wire between terminal No. 2 at door lock relay connector C293 and terminal No. 1 at RAP module 26-pin harness connector C405. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace door lock relay and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Purple wire between terminal No. 2 at door lock relay connector C293, in line connector C385 (located at driver's door jam, near dome light switch) and terminal No. 1 at RAP module 26-pin harness connector C405.
- Check to see if inoperative lock function operates with second remote transmitter. If inoperative lock function operates with second remote transmitter, replace first remote transmitter and retest system operation. If inoperative lock function does not operate with second remote transmitter, replace RAP module and retest system operation.NOTE: If vehicle is within 1/2 mile from radio or television towers, remote transmitter operating range may be reduced.
- Press each button on remote transmitter while standing 10 feet away from vehicle. If remote transmitter does not operate properly, go to next step. If remote transmitter operates properly, system is operating properly at this time.NOTE: When TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA screen first appears, different 8-digit letter/number codes should appear next to TIC 1 and TIC 2. These are stored transmitter identification codes (TICs) for transmitters No. 1 and No. 2.
- Using NGS tester, enter RAP FUNCTION TESTS TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA. If proper number of remote transmitters are stored in memory under TIC 1 and TIC 2, go to next step. If proper number of remote transmitters are not stored in memory under TIC 1 and TIC 2, reprogram all remote transmitters. See TRANSMITTER
under PROGRAMMING. Retest system operation.NOTE: It is normal for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED to flash different information momentarily when button is pressed. Information will lock in on the correct values. Tester is seeing the computer update its memory. Pressing CLEAR will clear the last transmission received, but will not clear stored TICs in memory.
- Press and release UNLOCK button on remote transmitter. Transmission received contains TICs for remote transmitter being operated and DATA for which button has been pressed. If an 8-digit letter/number code does not appear under LAST TIC RECEIVED, and UNLOCK does not appear under LAST DATA RECEIVED, go to next step. If an 8-digit letter/number code appears under LAST TIC RECEIVED, and UNLOCK appears under LAST DATA RECEIVED, go to step 13) .
- Using other remote transmitter, repeat step 10) . If an 8-digit letter/number code appears under LAST TIC RECEIVED, and UNLOCK appears under LAST DATA RECEIVED, go to next step. If an 8-digit letter/number code does not appear under LAST TIC RECEIVED, and UNLOCK does not appear under LAST DATA RECEIVED, go to step 14) .
- Switch batteries from known-good transmitter to malfunctioning transmitter. Press and release UNLOCK button on malfunctioning transmitter. If an 8-digit letter/number code appears under LAST TIC RECEIVED, and UNLOCK appears under LAST DATA RECEIVED, replace original batteries from malfunctioning transmitter, then retest system operation. If an 8-digit letter/number code does not appear under LAST TIC RECEIVED, and UNLOCK does not appear under LAST DATA RECEIVED, replace inoperative remote transmitter and retest system operation.
- Using NGS tester, check TIC/DATA for TIC match. If TIC under LAST TIC RECEIVED matches TIC 1 or TIC 2, go to next step. If TIC under LAST TIC RECEIVED does not match TIC 1 or TIC 2, reprogram all remote transmitters and repeat step 8) . See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
- Using NGS tester, check TIC/DATA for DATA match. If all buttons pressed for each transmitter indicate LAST DATA RECEIVED, replace RAP module and retest system operation. If all buttons pressed for only one transmitter does not indicate LAST DATA RECEIVED, reprogram all remote transmitters and repeat step 8) . See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. Replace remote transmitter if necessary and retest system operation. If all buttons pressed for all transmitters do not indicate LAST DATA RECEIVED, reprogram all remote transmitters and repeat step 8) . See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. If problem still exists, go to next step.
- Disconnect RAP module Gray, 26-pin connector C405 (located in luggage compartment/trunk, behind right trim panel on ZX2 coupe and sedan, or located behind left rear quarter trim panel on wagon). Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and terminal No. 25 (Blue/Black wire) at RAP module 26-pin connector C405. See Figure . If any voltage is present, repair short to power in Blue/Black wire between terminal No. 25 (Blue/Black wire) at RAP module 26-pin connector C405 and terminal No. 8 at Central Junction Box (CJB) harness connector C270. If no voltage is present, replace RAP module and retest system operation.
