NEW GENERATION STAR TESTER (NGS) - AVAILABILITY OF PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION (PID) DATA FOR TRANSAXLE DIAGNOSIS

TRANSAXLE - 4F20E - ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSTIC DATA AVAILABLE USING NGS SCAN TOOL

APPLICATION

Model(s): MERCURY: 1993-94 Villager

ISSUE:

An informational chart has been developed which allows use of the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500 or equivalent to access Parameter Identification (PID) data used by the Transaxle Control Module (TCM) for transaxle control strategy. This information will prove useful in transaxle diagnosis.

ACTION:

Use the additional data for better 4F20E transaxle diagnostic capability.

NOTE: Use of the informational chart requires a driver and an assistant to view the data when the vehicle is in motion.

Connect the NGS Scan Tool to the vehicle.
Proceed with menu selection as shown, after the proper vehicle selection is made. Refer to Fig 1 , Fig 2 and Fig 3 .
Select the items to monitor (MAX will select all of them).
Normal values are shown in the following chart.

NOTE: Approximately +/-10% allowance should be made for numerical values to allow for vehicle differences.

CHART NOTES

ON with accelerator pedal fully depressed.
OFF with accelerator pedal depressed.
ON with power EA-T switch depressed.
ON with speed control ACCEL button depressed.
ON with speed control activated.
ON with selector lever in "R" position.
ON with overdrive switch depressed.
ON with selector lever in N or P position, OFF with selector lever in R,D,2 or 1 position.
ON with selector lever in D position.
ON with selector lever in 2 position.
ON with selector lever in 1 position.
3 with overdrive off.
4 with overdrive off.
OFF with overdrive off.
