Check engine temperature sender terminal "R" (vehicles with temperature gauge) or "C" (vehicles with warning light) for continuity. Terminal should provide an engine ground circuit below 100°F and an open circuit above 120°F. If terminal resistance of 1 or more ohms is present with coolant temperature below 100°F, or if circuit does not open above 120°F, replace engine temperature sender.
