All Models

  1. Turn ignition switch on but do not start engine. Move blower switch to "HI" and function lever to "FLOOR". With coolant temperature less than 100°F, blower motor should not operate and outside air door should be closed. With coolant temperature above 120°F, blower should run and outside air door should be open.
  2. If results are not as indicated, start and idle engine. Disconnect "D" shaped connector from engine temperature sender and blower should run. If not, check EVR for continuity between "S1" and "S2". See Fig 1. If resistance is greater than 1 ohm, replace EVR.
  3. If resistance is satisfactory, check for improper ground contact in circuit of Yellow with White tracer wire. Connect jumper wire from ground to "R" or "C" terminal in "D" shaped connector. Blower should NOT run. If blower continues to run, check for continuity between sender unit and EVR terminal "CI", then check for continuity (approximately 31 ohms) between terminal "CI" and "C2".
CAUTION: Do not accidentally ground the other terminal of the "D" shaped connector or serious damage to the temperature gauge may result (on cars so equipped).
  4. If no continuity is found between terminal "CI" and "C2", replace the EV relay. If testing is still unsatisfactory, engine temperature sender requires further testing.
