Appendix A: Calibrated Box Method For Determining Heating Capacity Of Temperature Control Units: Notes

See STANDARD RATING CONDITIONS FOR HEATING  for standard rating conditions for heating. The calorimeter shall be equipped with a chilled fluid coil to remove all of the heat generated by the test unit. In addition, the calorimeter shall be equipped with blowers or fans. There shall be a second electrically heated fluid coil located outside and down stream from the chiller coil. Ratioing the temperature gain of the electrically heated coil to the temperature gain of the chilled fluid in the calorimeter will result in a precise measurement of the heat gained by measuring the watts in the electrically heated coil. This method is preferred; however, other equivalent methods are acceptable.
