Proper GASKETED Windshield Replacement Technique
- Inspect vehicle for any preexisting damage
- Protect all vulnerable areas of the vehicle prior to work.
- Remove moldings, wipers, cowl and trim from windshield.
- Push out damaged windshield. It may break, so be sure eye protection is being worn by the technician.
- Inspect and clean inside of gasket channel and sealing flanges [lips].
- Set windshield into gasket channel.
- Apply lubricant to sealing flange.
- Wrap rope around sealing flange.
- Position assembly in windshield opening and pull the rope out to seat the flange.
- Reinstall wipers, cowl and other devices detached during the glass removal.
- Apply water to the windshield to test for leaks.
- Inspect and clean vehicle.
