Tire Pressure Monitor Systems: Notes

SLC-Class vehicles can be equipped with either of two types of tire pressure monitor: Direct Type (Tire Pressure Monitor), which uses tire pressure sensors installed at the wheels, or Indirect Type (Tire Pressure Loss Warning System), which uses the ABS to determine tire pressure and does not use sensors on the wheels. Currently, most Mercedes vehicles with the Indirect Type TPMS are sold in Canada.

Under the following conditions, either system may not function properly:

• Snow chains are mounted to the vehicle.
• Winter road conditions prevail.
• Vehicle is driven on a loose surface (i.e., sand or gravel).
• If vehicle is driven in a very sporty manner (involving rapid acceleration or high speeds in curves).
• The tire pressure suddenly drops due to bursting or other causes.
