The roll bar protects the passengers from serious injury if an accident occurs (vehicle rollover).

The roll bar system essentially consists of the following components/assemblies:

The roll bar is:

All roll bar functions are controlled by the RVC control module (N52)  . In order to monitor the operation and indicate the status of the system, a malfunction indicator lamp is integrated in the instrument cluster (A1)  .

When manual operation  occurs, the roll bar hydraulic cylinder  generates the power that is required to raise and lower the roll bar.

The motor (A7/5m1)  of the hydraulic unit (A7/5)  generates the required system pressure.

If crash deployment  occurs, a pre-tensioned spring assembly  provides the power that is required to raise the roll bar.

The roll bar hydraulic system behaves passively in this case in order to guarantee that the required deployment speed is achieved.

IMPORTANT The raising movement is braked by the oil damper in the upper area.

If the Vario roof is operated and there are currently faults in the roll bar sensor or deployment branch, the roll bar is always hydraulically raised after the Vario roof has been locked in its final position.

IMPORTANT Crash deployment has priority over manual operation, i.e. crash deployment can also occur during manual operation.
