General function requirements

Folding left/right outside mirror, general

The left outside mirror (M21/1) and right outside mirror (M21/2) can be folded in and out electrically.

This can be done both automatically as well as manually.

The left front door control unit (N69/1) has the master function during adjustment and relays the necessary requests to the right front door control unit (N69/2) via the interior CAN (CAN-B).

If a new adjustment request for the housing is recognized while adjustment is in progress, the adjustment is directly switched to the opposite direction.

The left/right outside mirror comprises the following partial functions:

Function sequence for manual folding in/out

The partial function manual fold-in/out comprises the following subfunctions:

Additional function requirements for manually folding in

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits the circuit status circuit 15 and the vehicle speed is transmitted by the instrument cluster (A1) to the front door control units via the interior CAN.

Manual folding in function sequence

S20s9By pressing the outside mirror fold in/out switch in the driver power window and outside mirror adjustment switch group, the two outside mirror housings can be folded in (garage position). S20 The left door control unit reads in the status of the outside mirror fold-in/out switch via left door LIN (LIN B5) and transmits the it to the right door control unit via the interior CAN.

The left door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor (M21/1m3) in the left outside mirror. The right door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor (M21/2m3) in the right outside mirror.

The actuation duration of the outside mirror actuation depends on the outside temperature. At temperatures of T > 5 °C actuation is accomplished with t = 5 s, at 5 °C ≥ T > - 8 °C with t = 6 s and at T ≤- 8 °C with t = 8 s.

Additional function requirements for manual fold-out

Manual folding out function sequence

The mirror housing can be moved to the driving position by actuating the outside mirror fold-in/fold-out switch.

The left front door control unit reads in the status of the outside mirror fold-in/out switch via left door LIN (LIN) and transmits the it to the right door control unit via the interior CAN.

The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the left outside mirror.

The right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the right outside mirror.

The actuation duration is t = 5 s.

Additional function requirements for automatic fold-in/out

IMPORTANT The instrument cluster transmits the corresponding status via the interior CAN to the SAM control units.

Automatic folding in/out, function sequence

The partial function automatic fold-in/out comprises the following subfunctions:

Additional function requirements for automatically folding in

Automatic folding in function sequence

When the vehicle is locked with the central locking (CL) from outside both outside mirrors are folded in automatically (garage position). The electronic ignition switch control unit sends the status of the CL over the interior CAN to the left front door control unit and the right front door control unit.

The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the left outside mirror. The right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the right outside mirror.

The actuation duration is t = 5 s.

IMPORTANT Detailed information on the CL is given in the separate function description "Central Locking (CL).

Additional function requirements for automatic folding out

Automatic folding out function sequence

When the vehicle is unlocked with the CL and the driver door is opened, both mirror housings are folded out automatically (drive position).

The electronic ignition switch control unit sends the status of the CL over the interior CAN to the left front door control unit and the right front door control unit.

Opening the driver door is detected by the left front door rotary tumbler switch (A85s1) in the left front door lock (A85).

The left front door control unit directly reads in the status of the rotary tumbler switch.

The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the left outside mirror.

The right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the right outside mirror.

The actuation duration is t = 5 s.

IMPORTANT If the outside mirrors are still folded in with circuit 15R ON by a previous automatic folding-in procedure, the mirror housings are folded out immediately.

Additional function requirements for automatic fold-out via speed signal.

Function sequence for automatic fold-out via speed signal

The outside mirrors are folded out automatically when the vehicle speed v exceeds 47 km/h.

The instrument cluster transmits the vehicle speed to the door control units via the interior CAN.

The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the left outside mirror.

The right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the right outside mirror.

The actuation duration is t = 1 s.

IMPORTANT After exceeding a speed of v > 47 km/h is no longer possible to fold in the outside mirrors.
