KEYLESS GO - KEY DETECTION INTERMITTENT - RF FUNCTION IS OK

DEALER TECH TOPICS; SEPTEMBER 2011

Reference Number(s): TT 09/11, Date of Issue:  September 2011 update from February 2011
MERCEDES-BENZ: Model 207/212 and 164/251 as of MY '11
GROUP: 80.61 - Keyless Go

CAUSE / EXPLANATION

KG function fails intermittently. "Key Not Detected" displayed in IC when touching door handle OR when trying to use KG button to start the engine. RF function is OK and Smart key can be inserted into the ignition to start the vehicle. KG functions are restored following:

  1. - Smart key inserted in the ignition,
  2. -A press of a button on the Smart Key,
  3. - R & R of the Smart Key battery

CORRECTION

The cause has been identified as a software problem in the Smart Key. The issue is resolved as of date code 0391 on the key. The date code is the four digit number on the end of the key.

  1. example: 0391
  2. 0 = year 2010
  3. 39 = 39th week
  4. 1 = day of week: i.e. (Monday)

Stock of keys before this date codes is being checked and removed, therefore stock of new keys is EXTREMELY limited. You must verify the EXACT complaint from the customer and see that it matches this complaint before ordering a key. Refrain from replacing both keys until stock can be ramped up. IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WILL NOT FIX ALL KEYLESS GO NOT DETECTED ISSUES - ONLY THE FAULT PROFILE INDICATED ABOVE.
