The electronic accelerator function is integrated and controlled in the ME electronics control unit depending upon the driver input and the operating condition, the opening angle of the throttle valve and the air recirculation flap.

Input signals for the electronic accelerator pedal:

The position of the accelerator pedal and the speed at which the position of the accelerator pedal changes are transmitted to the sensor located on the accelerator pedal mechanically.

The Hall sensor in the accelerator pedal sensor sends an appropriate voltage signal to the ME control unit. It evaluates the voltage signal and controls the throttle valve actuator and the recirculated air flap actuator dependent on the performance map.

The opening angles of the throttle valve and the recirculated air flap are altered by the actuator motors in the actuators according to actuation of the ME-SFI [ME] control unit.

The actual value potentiometers in the actuators notify the current throttle valve and the recirculated air flap position to the ME control unit.

The second potentiometer in the actuators (throttle valve and air recirculation flap) and the second Hall sensor in the accelerator pedal sensor deliver the reference values for plausibility checking of the input signals to the ME-SFI [ME] control unit.

Any detected faults are stored in the fault memory and can be read out and deleted using STAR DIAGNOSIS.

Additional functions of the electronic accelerator pedal:

IMPORTANT If the brake pedal is operated, this always means idle speed input.
