When the button "Lock vehicle" is actuated, the remote control key (A8/1) transmits a signal to the corresponding receiver in the vehicle via radio and infrared signals. They receive the signal and relay it to the EIS control module (N73) via the passenger compartment CAN B bus. The EIS control module (N73) checks the access authorization of the remote control key (A8/1). If the access authorization is valid, the EIS control module (N73) transmits the command for "locking" to the left front door control module (N69/1), right front door control module (N69/2), left rear door control module (N69/3), right rear door control module (N69/4) and to the rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2) via the passenger compartment CAN bus.

These activate the locking of the door locks, the fuel filler flap and the trunk lid. Moreover, the interior central locking switch and the trunk lid release switch become inactive.

If the remote control key (A8/1) is inserted into the EIS control module (N73) after the vehicle is locked, the interior switches are again activated. The central locking is then in the same state as after the locking operation via the interior central locking switch. However, the vehicle is only unlocked again by opening a door.
