The radio (A2) is the central operating and display device for all integrated vehicle entertainment and communications systems on the MOST ring (Media Oriented Systems Transport). As such it is also known as a "one-box" system. It has a VFD display (transreflective technology) which is divided into 6 display fields for outputting information, such as assignment of function keys, function status and operating menus.

The maximum amount of functions can be operated are the following:

The radio (A2) can be operated by 2 main control panels, which are located on the left and right next to the display, a button panel below the display as well as rotary knob and a cross-shaped rocker button. Several functions can also be activated with the aid of the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel.

It should be noted that all pushbutton operations on the multifunction steering wheel are first processed by the instrument cluster (A1). The instrument cluster is connected to the radio (A2) via the CAN-B (interior CAN). The instrument cluster (A1) correlates the incoming pushbutton operations with the current menu setting in the multifunction display (A1p13) and, where applicable, it then transmits a corresponding CAN message to the radio (A2).

IMPORTANT In this audio system, the function of the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) is performed by the radio (A2).

MOST bus system

The digital components of the radio (A2) are linked by the fiber optical cable bus system of the MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport). The data (commands, user information) between the various system components as well as an optical wake-up signal are transmitted via the bus system. In addition to this optical wake-up signal, the device can also be put in operation by an electrical wake-up signal ("woken up").

Because some of the individual components work with different data formats or require different data transfer rates and security levels, different bus systems have been installed:

The conditions must be met for startup:

System activation

The operating unit switches on when the rotary knob is pressed. The volume for the selected audio source is regulated at the rotary controller. The function keys switch over to the audio source desired by the user.

The audio system is operated by means of the following controls:

IMPORTANT The system cannot be operated with a remote control.

Interfaces

The CAN-B (interior) is used for data exchange with the instrument cluster (A1). In this way, the instrument cluster (A1) receives audio and telephone data from the radio (A2) for its multifunction display (A1p13).
