COMPLAINT

Red display symbol "Battery" along with the message text "Visit Workshop" appearing in the Instrument Cluster (IC) and fault code 9000 [Control Unit Defective] is stored in the Battery Control Module (BCM)

CAUSE

BCM may need to be flashed

REMEDY

NOTE: The red IC message appears shortly after starting the engine and will stop after a short period of time (approximately 5 minutes).
NOTE: The returned BCM will be tested and must have the stored fault code 9000 to receive credit for this repair.
  1. Verify that fault code 9000 is stored in the BCM (N82) by navigating to the following STAR Diagnosis menu: Control Units -> Body -> BCM- Battery Control Module -> Fault Codes.
  2. Determine if the vehicle is equipped with either a BCM1 (part numbers: A211 540 13 45, A211 540 27 45, A211 540 42 45 or A211 540 69 45) or a BCM2 (part numbers: A211 540 38 45 or A211 540 76 45). BCM1: The BCM should be flashed using Star Diagnosis 03/06 or newer. After the BCM has been flashed the part number will be changed to A211 442 01 55. BCM2: The BCM must be flashed using Star Diagnosis 01/07 or newer. After the BCM has been flashed the part number will be changed to A211 540 86 45.
NOTE: The following allowable labor operations should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair. This information has been generated on March 7, 2008. Please refer to Netstar ## Star TekInfo ## Star Time for the most current labor time allowance.
