WSS control unit (Weight Sensing System), component description - GF91.60-P-4046RT
MODEL 251.1 with CODE (494) USA version up to Model Year 8
The WSS control unit (Weight Sensing System) (N2/13) is located in the front passenger seat frame. It determines the weight of a person on a seat or an installed child seat on the front passenger seat via the sensors:
- B48/11 Left front WSS sensor (Weight Sensing System),
- B48/12 Right front WSS sensor (Weight Sensing System),
- B48/13 Left rear WSS sensor (Weight Sensing System),
- B48/14 Right rear WSS sensor (Weight Sensing System)
located on the seat frame.
The weight on the seat is sensed with the measured values and is transmitted to the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) for exact control of the airbag stages.
The purpose of the WSS control unit is:
- Evaluation and power supply for the WSS sensors
- Calculation of the weight of a person or child seat sensed on the front passenger seat
- Provision of weight sensing via controller area network bus, class B (interior compartment) (CAN-B)
- Self-test of WSS control unit and WSS sensors. If a defect occurs, it is entered in the DTC memory.
