Crankshaft position sensor function - GF07.04-P-4116-01G

with segment control

Crankshaft position and engine speed are detected contactlessly. The distance between crankshaft position sensor (L5) and the segments of the driven plate/flywheel (12) is fixed by the installation position.

The front and rear edges of the segments generate an alternating voltage (induction) in the crankshaft position sensor (L5) when the engine is running. The higher the engine speed the higher the voltage. The permanent magnet in one segment causes a change in the signal which is used for detecting the respective ignition circuit.
