Engine control (SIM 4LDE) is incorporated within the ME control unit (N3/10).

The abbreviation SIM 4LDE means:

S  = S  iemens

I  = I  ntegrated

m  = M  otorsteuerung (engine control)

4  = 4  -cylinder

DE  = D  irekt-E  inspritzer (direct injection)

The following systems are controlled and coordinated by the ME control unit:

• Ignition system
• Injection system
• Electronic accelerator/cruise control/idle speed control
• Diagnosis and fault storage
• Drive authorization system/immobilizer
• Emission control system

Depending on the equipment and model, additional control units are networked via the CAN databus (Controller A  rea N  etwork) with the ME control unit.
