SERVICE INFORMATION
Should diagnosis of the AIR matic System indicate a DTC of 1517, please inspect the Air matic compressor unit (A9/1) (Fig. Fig 1 ), which is located in the engine compartment on the front right hand side for leaks. The Air matic compressor has no serviceable parts. If you have a leaking compressor, replace it with a "Q 15" or higher version. The "Q 15" version compressors have an improved sealing O-ring and a tighter tolerance on the output housing assembly thereby improving output. Following the compressor removal and replacement procedure noted below, be certain to retest the Air matic system.
REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
- Inspect the air suspension compressor for leaks.
- If the unit is found to be leaking, replace with a "Q 15" or higher version. To avoid total pressure loss when removing and installing AIR matic compressor unit (A9/1), the level control valve (Y36/6) must remain connected to the pressure side of the AIR matic system. Disconnect only the pressure feed line from the level control valve to the compressor (arrow, Fig. Fig 1 ). For instructions on removing and installing the AIR matic compressor unit, refer to WIS AR32.22-P-2001.
- Retest AIR matic system.
CAUTION:
Allow the AIR matic pump to fully pressurize the AIR matic system BEFORE lowering the vehicle to the floor. Failure to do so will result in suspension damage.
